A FedEx driver in Alabama allegedly discarded packages six times, according to the sheriff

The sheriff’s office in Blount County, Alabama, stated Tuesday that a former FedEx Ground driver tossed parcels into a forested ravine on six occasions.

Sheriff Mark Moon said investigators had identified the driver, but they are keeping that information for now, according to an online report from WVTM, a TV station in neighboring Birmingham. According to Moon, the incident may have had an impact on as many as 450 people. It is unknown if the incidence occurred over a single day or over multiple days.

Last week, a gully on private property near Hayden, Alabama, in Blount County, was discovered with between 300 and 400 FedEx Ground parcels. FedEx Ground drivers from all across the country descended on the region to collect the packages and deliver them to their destinations. FedEx Ground drivers are self-employed individuals.

According to the local news station, FedEx (NYSE: FDX) said it was working with investigations and that the worker implicated was no longer providing service for FedEx Ground.

“Recovered packages are delivered to the intended recipients wherever possible.” “We will make every attempt to work with the affected shippers to seek a resolution in the case of a damaged cargo,” FedEx stated in a statement.

Investigators will attempt to put together the driver’s method of operation as well as the motivation for his conduct. Each FedEx Ground delivery van has the capacity to transport 300 to 400 parcels.
