With the acquisition, RoadOne gains access to the Houston freight corridor.

The Transporter Inc., a regional intermodal service provider with facilities in Houston, Dallas, and Laredo, Texas, has been acquired by RoadOne IntermodaLogistics.

The Transporter offers local and long-distance transportation services such as drayage, reefer, hazmat, bonded, dry van, flatbed solutions, and in-house brokerage.

Transporter IntermodaLogistics, a division of RoadOne, will now be known as Transporter IntermodaLogistics, a Houston-based company with approximately 122 trucks and 150 drivers.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

“The Transporter team is a perfect match for RoadOne,” said Ken Kellaway, president, and CEO of RoadOne. “The United States Southwest is an important market, especially as container volumes in the Gulf of Mexico increase.”

Russ Cook, who is retiring, founded The Transporter in 1988. Jeff Ebel, vice president of operations, and Greg Cook, vice president of sales, will continue to run the company’s day-to-day operations.

“I am delighted to welcome Transporter to the RoadOne family,” Russ Cook said. “With my sons at the helm, I am confident that the company will continue to grow and prosper, especially with the support of RoadOne’s national network and an array of logistics, drayage, and distribution resources.”

RoadOne, headquartered in Randolph, Massachusetts, provides intermodal, warehousing, and logistics services. Over 2,200 drivers work for the privately held company in over 100 locations, including ports, rail, and truckload terminals.

RoadOne also recently opened a branch office in Houston and moved into a 480,000-square-foot transload facility in Pasadena, Texas, about 5 miles from Port Houston.

Port Houston recently reported that container volume increased 14% year over year in 2022, totaling 3.9 million twenty-foot equivalent units. Total tonnage at the port increased 22% yearly compared to 2021, reaching a new high of 55 million short tons.
