Mexico’s heavy-duty vehicle production and exports saw a significant increase in February.
According to data from Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography, 14,346 heavy-duty vehicles were manufactured in February, representing a 41 percent raise over the same month in the previous year.
Mexico exported 11,712 heavy vehicles during February, representing a 31 percent raise over the same month the previous year. The United States was the primary export market for Mexican-made heavy-duty trucks in October, accounting for 95.3 percent of total exports. Canada (1.7 percent) and Colombia (1.5 percent) were the second and third most populous countries globally.
According to Miguel Elizalde, head of the Mexican National Association of Bus, Truck, and Tractor Producers, “production increased in February due to increased availability of semiconductors” (ANPACT).
Due to a lack of semiconductors, truck manufacturers in Mexico have been impeded, influencing the global automotive industry.
Elizalde expressed concern that, despite growth in exports and manufacturing in February, the truck manufacturing sector in Mexico could see supply chain challenges throughout 2022 due to global instability.
In a monthly press conference, Elizalde stated that “[supply chains] have not been completely fixed.” Even though Russia’s conflict against Ukraine cannot be minimized, “for the time being, we do not perceive a direct impact on the supplier because it is not reliant on these countries.”
MAN SE, Mercedes-Benz, Isuzu, Scania, Cummins, and Detroit Diesel are among the truck manufacturers and parts manufacturers that have assembly plants and factories in Mexico, according to ANPACT. Other truck manufacturers and parts manufacturers with assembly plants and factories in Mexico include Freightliner, Kenworth, Navistar, Hino, and International.

Mattel will invest $47 million in a new facility in Mexico.
It was recently revealed that toy manufacturer Mattel Inc. would combine its entire North American manufacturing with its Montoi plant in the Mexican city of Monterrey.
Due to the consolidation, Mattel is closing its plants in Tijuana, Mexico, and Montreal. The closures are part of the company’s strategic plan. In addition, the corporation is investing $47 million to develop its Monterrey facility.
“We believe that Mexico, given its geographic location, has a unique opportunity to position itself as a toy hub globally,” said Ynon Kreiz, CEO of Mattel, according to El Financiero. “We believe that Mexico, given its geographical location, has a unique opportunity to position itself as a toy hub globally.”
As a result of the investment, it is estimated that the number of employees at the Montoi facility will expand from 1,600 to 3,500 by the end of the year.
Among the toys manufactured at the Montoi plant are the Power Wheels, Barbie, and Fisher-Price brands, exported to around 30 countries.

Cummins is relocating its engine manufacturing line to San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Cummins Inc., a maker of diesel engines, recently stated that it would relocate an engine manufacturing line from its Jamestown, New York, facility to Mexico.
Cummins’ ISM11 and QSX15 engines, which are utilized in tractor-trailers, will now be manufactured at the company’s plant in the Mexican city of San Luis Potosi.
As part of the transfer, Cummins will make an investment of $11 million in San Luis Potosi. In addition, 50 new positions will be created due to the migration.
In an interview with El Economista, Ignacio Garcia, vice president of Cummins Latin America, said that the decision to relocate the operation to [Mexico] is an opportunity to continue growing and boosting the company’s competencies, which will allow us to provide better business opportunities for our customers in different industries.”
There will be a capacity for 2,700 engines to be produced annually on the new engine line, which will be supplied in North America and European and Asian countries.
Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) is headquartered in Columbus, Ind. The corporation has more than 30 manufacturing sites spread across 14 different nations.
Traffickers establish a logistics company to distribute $29 million worth of methamphetamine.
Seven hundred seventy-seven kilos of methamphetamine were seized from two Houston-area residents: Eduardo Figueroa Jr., 26, of Cleveland, Texas, and Cynara Lucia Sarmiento, 23, of Conroe, Texas. Both were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
As stated by the Houston Chronicle, Figueroa employed Sarmiento as his assistant and charged her with acquiring warehouse space and establishing Hive Logistics, a business based in Houston.
Hive Logistics was searched by authorities, who stated they seized 777 kilos of meth, 10 kilograms of cocaine, ledgers, two firearms, and five magazines. According to officials, the meth was discovered inside metal containers labeled as mango puree.
According to estimates, meth has a street worth of $29 million.
The sentencing hearing will take place on June 1 before U.S. District Judge Ricardo H. Hinojosa in Los Angeles. Figueroa and Sarmiento face a maximum sentence of life in prison and a fine of up to 10 million dollars.
