In March, cargo theft in Mexico increased by 18%.
According to data studied by Transport and Tourism Magazine from Mexico’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), trucking companies reported 804 occurrences of cargo theft in March.
The 804 incidents reported in March represented an 18% increase over the same month in 2021 when 679 cases were reported.
According to SSPC, the state of México placed first in cargo thefts in March, with 465 incidents, a 39 percent year-over-year rise compared to the same month in 2021. In March, the states of Puebla and Michoacán were ranked second and third in the country for cargo thefts.
Fresh food, food items, building supplies, car parts, and electrical gadgets were the most usually stolen items.
While cargo theft increased in Mexico in March, the number of stolen tractor-trailers decreased by around 4% between April 2021 and March 2022, according to data from the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS).
According to AMIS, 7,099 insured tractor-trailers were stolen in the last year, compared to 7,406 units from April 2020 to March 2021.
With 1,945 stolen tractor-trailer units, the state of Mexico topped the list. Puebla had 757 stolen tractor-trailers, Veracruz had 624, Guanajuato had 583, and Jalisco had 438 stolen tractor-trailers.
According to Norma Alicia Rosas Rodrguez, general director of AMIS, officials recovered 59 percent of the stolen tractor-trailers or approximately 4,200 units.
Kohler invests $200 million in Mexico, building a fourth facility.
Kohler Co., based in Wisconsin, recently announced plans build a $200 million manufacturing factory near Monterrey, Mexico, in the state of Nuevo León.
The business will manufacture faucets and might potentially employ up to 1,600 people. The first phase of construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2023.
Kohler’s new plant in Nuevo León will be the company’s fourth. The plant will cater to the needs of the North American market.
“One of the reasons we’re opening this facility in Nuevo León is to minimize delivery times and to take advantage of Mexico’s very competitive workforce,” Roberto Martnez, vice president of Kohler México, told Milenio.
privately owned Kohler is most recognized for its plumbing products, but the company also produces furniture, cabinetry, tiling, engines, and generators.
The corporation employs over 31,000 employees and has 49 manufacturing sites worldwide.
Ramos Arizpe will have an EV component factory.
LG Magna ePowertrain, a joint venture between LG Electronics and Magna International, has started building a new plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.
The 260,000-square-foot facility will manufacture electric motors, inverters, and onboard chargers for GM’s electric vehicles. It is expected to be finished by the end of 2023.
LG Magna ePowertrain is a relatively recent joint company that began operations in July 2021 and now employs over 1,300 people across Korea, North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
LG Electronics is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, and Magna International is headquartered in Aurora, Ontario, Canada.
Since 1981, GM has operated a vehicle facility in Ramos Arizpe. The manufacturer has just begun transforming its manufacturing facilities to produce electric vehicles. GM has not yet confirmed which electric vehicles will be produced in Ramos Arizpe.
After a collision with a train, a truck driver is in severe condition.
A truck driver is in critical condition after colliding with a railway west of Houston on Wednesday.
Around 7:15 a.m., the tractor-trailer was going down Katy Hockley Road, roughly 35 miles west of Houston, when it crossed the rails and was hit by a passing train. According to KHOU 11, the train slammed the tractor’s cab, detaching it from the trailer, and then pushed it hundreds of yards down the track.
The truck driver was taken to the hospital, where he was classified in critical but stable condition. Officials did not reveal the identity of the driver or the contents of the truck.
