ContainerPort Group, a trucking and intermodal drayage company, announced this week the addition of Bristol Transportation to its dray capacity network. The carrier will offer service in Chicago, Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia.
“Expanding the CPG network with the introduction of Bristol Transportation in these critical locations will help us adapt to the change we’re witnessing in diverting cargo away from the West Coast and pushing volumes up on the East and Gulf coastlines,” said CPG president Joey Palmer.
Bristol Transportation is an operator-based carrier that offers local and regional drayage as well as long-haul, over-the-road transportation. It currently manages three container storage yards but wants to build a new facility every three months. Since its initial location in Charleston opened in October with three trucks, the fleet has grown to more than 40 vehicles.
In addition, the organization assists owner-operators with auxiliary responsibilities like billing, risk management, insurance, and tax reporting.
“At Bristol Transportation, we do things differently; we’re not your normal drayage company,” said Zach Hadden, regional director. “We provide our drivers the best remuneration package on the market, as well as 24/7 access to a wide range of support services that go far beyond what your average trucking firm offers.”
As containers continue to build up and a considerable volume of freight sits offshore, the need for capacity at the nation’s ports remains high.
“By bringing Bristol Transportation on board, CPG displays its ongoing commitment to meeting market demand by expanding our network – ensuring cargo travels quickly to, from, and within these vital markets,” Palmer added.
CPG, which was founded in 1971, is the trucking subsidiary of The World Group, a 60-year-old conglomerate that also includes World Shipping Inc., which provides multimodal (ocean, trucking, and rail) international cargo services such as freight forwarding, warehousing, distribution, and customs clearance. The companies are based in Cleveland, with CPG specializing in intermodal drayage.
CPG manages 26 terminals and a network of over 1,300 independent contractors.
