UPS Healthcare, a division of UPS Inc., announced Tuesday that it would expand its network of 125 facilities in 34 countries by adding three new locations, two in Europe and one in the United States.
The UPS (NYSE: UPS) subsidiary announced that it will open a facility in Roermond, Netherlands, in early 2022 and another in Giessen, Germany, in December of that year. The facility in the Netherlands will have freezer farm capacity to store biopharma goods, including COVID-19 vaccines, which must be kept at temperatures below minus 70 degrees Fahrenheit for distribution across Europe. In September, UPS opened a branch in the Czech Republic.
The unit will also open a facility in Mira Loma, California, in Riverside County in March. UPS Healthcare’s campus will grow to 213,000 square feet with the addition of the new facility. It’s also roughly 11 miles from the company’s Ontario aviation hub on the West Coast.
The company wants to grow in Poland next month and in Australia in the second half of 2022.
UPS Healthcare has also constructed a cold chain and packaging center on its Louisville, Kentucky, property, which also houses Worldport, the company’s worldwide air hub. According to UPS, it will be its first U.S.-based facility to offer reusable cold chain packaging. Before being repurposed for another use, reusable packaging might be used several times.
